K5DLE
SK thoughts by Skip-N5CFM
Eulogy
to Gene K5DLE
There is a light that will shine no more in an old hamshack located in
Logan County tonight. You will not see the glimmer of the sweep tubes
in an old 101 E glowing any more; nor the sweet music of a Master
Brass Pounder singing over the airwaves; a beautiful sound that we
have grown to know and love for over a half a century. Gene Nailon,
K5DLE, dedicated most of his life to ham radio, and for the last 25
years, QCWA was his sole passion. A “Recruitaholic” he proudly called
himself; and to so many, he was more than just a friend. He was their
mentor and so much more. For today, amateur radio has lost a true and
faithful friend; for he has entered into the time honored realm of a
SK, as so many others before us have gone on into that great station
in the sky. That spiritual station not built with hands, eternal in
the heavens.
73 and farewell to you, Gene, for you and your call,
K5DLE, will surely be missed by all. And from me, you will always be
my brother and best friend. skip N5CFM.
Indeed we have three new League affiliated clubs in the Oklahoma Section. Thanks to these clubs for their commitment to public service while wearing the banner of the American Radio Relay League:
Durant Amateur Repeater Association
McCurtain County ARC
South Metro Amateur Radio Team-OKC
Goodness what a great event this was!
Wonderful activity all over with very enjoyable visits to the Tulsa ARC and West Central OK ARC in Elk City. The Harley-Davidson Route 66 served as a splendid host for a Saturday. Great seeing the TARC members and interacting with the Harley Davidson dealer staff. The networking was strong and provides a great springboard for public service. It was great to present Charis-KD5WXF with her League appointment as TARC net manager. A note of thanks to Jay-AD5PE for hosting the event visit and in coordinating the Route 66 fun via Amateur Radio.
Thanks to the clubs below for the effort to put three Oklahoma stations on the air of the 17 total along Route 66. Several thousand contacts were made from the Oklahoma stations. Wonderful job Oklahoma…and it seems we are better able to provide emergency communication when working this type event.

Splendid time recently visiting with A.J.-K5AJK in Payne county. We discussed club activities, served agency networking and community service plans. Sure appreciate what this club does and look forward to more fun and times of fellowship with the group. Thanks to K5AJK for accepting a League appointment for public information officer for this club. While in Stillwater had the opportunity to break bread with Dean-KL7MA Section Official Observer Coordinator.
